THEY'RE HERE! BORN ON MOTHER'S DAY! 5-8-11

Two girls (one left) and one boy (on right) so far.  Went downstairs to let Monique and Giselle outside and found puppies waiting for me!  She wasn't due until 5-14-11.  Today was her day for a spa day - bath, grooming, get her set up for her puppies to be born, etc.  She had a different schedule!  Pups are GORGEOUS, fat and healthy and strong.

4-19-11 vet appointment

Hi, everyone.  Although I calendared the proper number of days to have the xrays taken, both girls were still a couple days too soon for the xrays to pick up calcification of the spines.  We did go ahead and have ultrasounds performed just to make sure all was well and to see if we might be able to get an idea of how many pups are in there.  Heartbeats were strong, puppies were very active (which is why it is so difficult to try to count puppies in an ultrasound), and the vet saw at least five that he could count in Minnie and knows there are more but not sure how many more, but there “a bunch of puppies in there!”  Basically the same thing for Monique – he saw four for sure, and there appear to be several more in there, but when they move around, you can end up counting the same one(s) more than once, so the vets like to stay on the conservative side of what they know they can count.  So, we are very excited to have healthy, active puppies, and what appears to be the right number of  pups.  Please note that until they are born, there is no way to determine gender.

We intend to have Monique xrayed again, probably within five days… We are not sure we will be able to xray Minnie again – she gets very stressed out, and she gets carsick – put those two things together and I have to have my car cleaned and the back carpet cleaned after our vet trip.  Not sure either of us are up to another vet trip – and I don’t like putting stress on the moms that can cause any stress on the pups.  Monique could care less – Minnie is a little more sensitive to changes.

Here is a photo from Monique's ultrasound (sorry it is sideways - i uploaded it right-side-up)
